"Health systems are under constant pressure to improve patient care quality and safety, while at the same time reducing costs and increasing revenue. Communication failures are the root of most medical errors and sentinel events. When team members do not communicate effectively, it is inevitable that patient care suffers. Part of that ineffectiveness is due to fragmented systems, lack of user compliance and the stresses on the team members especially when trying to perform at the highest level. Allm will educate the audience on how to utilize transformational digital technologies for coordinated communication, collaboration, and workflow management. We help health systems to better synchronize the care amongst stakeholders for better patient outcomes. Breaking down the organizational silo. Learning Objectives:- How to share information through the care continuum?
- How to achieve effective collaboration?
- How to improve patient outcomes and safety, and reduce cost?
-

The HIPAA Security Rule, as well as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and other standards, stipulate that risk analysis and risk management should be continuous, and not performed at a single point in time. However, for various reasons, many healthcare organizations treat these key functions as a once and done process. As described by NIST, “The objective is to institutionalize risk management into the day‐to‐day operations of organizations as a priority and an integral part of how organizations conduct operations in cyberspace — recognizing that this is essential in order to successfully carry out missions in threat‐laden operational environments.” During this session, Clearwater CEO Steve Cagle and Head of Consulting Services Jon Moore will review a new managed service offering the company has developed to help healthcare providers build and operate a Cyber Risk Management program that is reasonable and appropriate for their needs, meets HIPAA Security Rule Risk Analysis, Risk Management, Technical and Non-Technical Evaluation requirements, and aided by the power of a purpose-built software tool, provides the ability to maintain and provide timely information on their unique risks for decision making within the organization. Attendees will be asked to share their feedback on the Cyber Risk Management challenges their organization is facing and how effectively the offering addresses those challenges. -

While most CIOs agree that it is critical to have a defined technology or digital strategy, creating and maintaining one is a big challenge. As a result, very few organizations have a defined plan. A handful of very progressive organizations will have a strategic plan where technology and digital transformation are enablers. While not identified in a separate, distinct plan, the specific initiatives are embedded in the overall plan. This is rare and we see it in about 5% of health systems. Studies have shown that about 20% of hospitals do have a written technology or digital strategy but only have of those are executed and updated once the plan is completed. It takes a lot of hard work and cultural fortitude. The majority of hospitals simply do not have a coherent technical or digital strategy. Most initiatives are based on the crisis of the day, individual projects from influential leaders and legitimate investments aligned with the organizational strategy. It is very much hit and miss and comes at a steep price. The foundational elements and infrastructure to support strategic initiatives are underinvested. So, how do you go about changing this narrative and outcome?
