Allina Health Deploys Vocera Software to Connect Clinical and Communication Systems

Interoperability platform improves workflows and reduces alarm fatigue

San Jose, CA – September 19, 2018 – Vocera Communications, Inc. (NYSE:VCRA), a recognized leader in clinical communication and workflow solutions, today announced that Allina Health is deploying Vocera interoperability software to connect nurse call systems and patient monitors with the health system’s communication infrastructure. Connectivity between disparate systems will help simplify clinical workflows, improve staff response times, and reduce alarm fatigue.

These integrations mark a large expansion of Vocera technology across Allina Health, an award-winning 12-hospital system with locations in Minnesota and Wisconsin. In August 2018, Allina Health’s Abbott Northwestern, Mercy and United hospitals were ranked first, second and fourth, respectively, in the Twin Cities on the U.S. News & World Report 2018-19 Best Hospitals list. Abbott Northwestern was also ranked first in Twin Cities and second in all of Minnesota for the sixth year in a row.

“At Allina Health, the human element is central to our care model, and human centered care starts with trusted communication,” said Jonathan Shoemaker, senior vice president and chief information officer at Allina Health. “We needed a secure and reliable way to connect multiple people, systems and information faster and easier, and that is what the Vocera software does.”

Using staff assignments and intelligent workflow design, the Vocera software prioritizes alerts from patient monitors, nurse call and other systems and sends contextual notifications to the right care team members via their mobile devices, landline phones or workstations, depending of their preferences. The Vocera software integrates with more than 140 clinical and operational systems, helping improve patient care, safety and experience. For more than 10 years, care teams at Allina Health Abbott Northwestern Heart Hospital have used the hands-free, voice-controlled Vocera Badge for communication and collaboration.

“Our mission at Vocera is to design and deploy technology solutions that help our customers like Allina Health improve the lives of patients, families and care teams,” said Brent Lang, president and CEO of Vocera. “Having a single, integrated solution for system connectivity and alarm management is key to alleviating interruption fatigue and creating an ideal healing and working environment.”
